Ranking of new alternative helmets: Cowboys bring back the classic look, Bengals white tiger hits instantly

One of the best decisions the NFL has made in the last few years has been the elimination of the “one-shell rule” that allows teams to wear alternative helmets after the 2022 season. Alternative helmets paved the way for teams to return to classic throwback uniforms this season and experiment with unique alternative uniform combinations.

The team is definitely using an alternative helmet. 11 has already announced a new helmet for 2022, and up to 15 teams could own a second helmet this year (according to Uni Watch). Of the 11 teams, 4 will take their throwback helmets home and wear them with their throwback jerseys. The other seven teams have announced alternative color helmets that pair with the current alternative uniform set.

More throwbacks will come in 2023 as the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers revive their Kelly Green and Orange cream sicle uniforms, respectively. It’s possible that alternative helmets will be available by the 2023 season throughout the league, but let’s rank the helmets revealed so far.

There are two categories in these rankings: slowback and alternative.

Throwback

4. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have revived the classic red helmet that the team first wore during the 1966 inauguration season. The 1966 Slowback uniform finally comes with a helmet. It features a gray face mask with the Slowback Falcons emblem logo trimmed in white. .. The red helmet also has a black stripe in the center of the helmet, trimmed in white and gold.

Atlanta combines these helmets with the Falcons original jersey for a genuine look. The Falcons throwback was already sharp, but now the set is complete.

3. New York Giants

Giants took advantage of alternative helmets by reviving the combination of helmets from the 1980s and 1990s with matching home uniforms (worn between 1980 and 1999). Instead of the bright blue helmet Giants used in the Color Rush throwback, New York returned to the Navy helmet with a white face mask and scarlet red stripes.

New York has also returned to home throwback red and blue trim. This is a classic look that has become highly regarded over time. These are one of the cleanest uniforms in the sport and are the uniforms that the Giants need to keep for a long time.

2. New England Patriots

The Patriots brought back the popular red jersey they had been wearing for nearly 30 years and the white helmet they wore with them. These jerseys are simple red with blue and white stripes on the red sleeves. The white numbers are bold, and the blue contours and refreshing white pants regain nostalgia. The Patriots have wanted to bring them home for years.

Even with the impressive throwback back, the “Pat Patriot” may be the most anticipated.

1. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys did not make a big announcement regarding the return of the throwback helmet. There wasn’t even a tease they would return to show how popular 1960s helmets were in Dallas.

The white helmet was the first color of the Cowboys, wearing white and royal blue jerseys with stars on the shoulders from 1960 to 1964. The Cowboys respected the original uniform on Thanksgiving Day 2004-2012, before the tradition was stopped thanks to the “One Shell Rule”.

This was one of the NFL’s greatest throwbacks. Just matching Dallas revives a uniform combination of traditional calendar days.

Alternative

New Orleans has eliminated the three-striped look of the helmet and reversed the color of the main elements with this alternative black helmet. The shell switched from gold to black while the logo changed from black to gold.

Instead of a three-striped look, Saints decided to adopt a triangular design with a small gold “fleur de lis” logo. New Orleans appears to be wearing this in the 1975 Color Rush Away Jersey throwback, but these probably look much cleaner in traditional home jerseys.

The good thing about these helmets. Saints can wear them in various uniform combinations.

6. New York Jets

Jets has unveiled a stealth black helmet that will be worn in three games this season. This works well with black alternative uniforms. The logo will be Forest Green. This includes a chrome green face mask with white keylines.

The New York black helmet (the first in franchise history) goes great with uniforms.

For the team debuting a brand new uniform (and new name), the black alternative helmet may be the best in Washington.

Washington has never worn a black uniform in its history, but the uniform combination helmet is sharp. The DC flag patch on the sleeve, like the numbers on the black helmet, is an amazing touch.

Since Washington was the first team to debut an alternative helmet, the combination of gold numbers and all-black jersey and pants works.

4. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles wore a black helmet for only a year (before switching to Kelly Green) and the franchise was smart by not being too flashy with this design. All the Eagles did was switch the green helmet at midnight to black. It had a smooth appearance and had no midnight green contours.

Eagles can wear these in combination with the all-black alternative uniform that debuted in 2014 (black jerseys have been worn since 2003). Philadelphia can also wear a helmet with a white jersey and black trousers, as the Eagles wore a white jersey and black trousers for the first time last year.

These helmets, even one-off, were made for the golden time.

3. Houston Texans

The Texans “Battle Red” alternative is one of the NFL’s underrated uniforms, and Houston finally got a red helmet that fits the jersey. These uniforms have matured gracefully since their debut in 2005. These uniforms are worn with red trousers, blue trousers and white trousers and work well with each.

Houston didn’t change his helmet much and matched the dark blue face mask to the “Battle Red” color. The “Battle Red” jersey and white trousers are worn with the helmet. This is the first change in the team’s helmet since the franchise debuted in 2002.

No photo of the uniform wearing a helmet has been published, but this is a clean look that is popular in Houston.

2. Carolina Panthers

Carolina took these helmets out of the box and looks great with a combination of black uniforms. Panthers, who debuted the all-black uniform combination for the first time, introduced a black alternative helmet with the Panthers logo bordered in baby blue. The helmet stripes will also be baby blue, giving a fresh look to teams wearing silver helmets since their inception in 1995.

The helmet wears black socks and black shoes and is perfect for black home jerseys and alternative black trousers. Blackover Blackover Black, Light Blue Trim-For some reason, Panthers has upgraded their home jersey (which is one of the best in the NFL).

Panthers shattered this uniform design.

Bengali have teased white helmets to match white road uniforms since the “one-shell rule” was lifted. Cincinnati finally revealed the white tiger helmet, even if Bengal didn’t reveal the uniform to pair with the helmet (guess).

Cincinnati just replaced the orange color of the helmet with white, and the orange color of the helmet was only the Bengals logo on the front. The “White Bengal” helmet is a simple replacement that perfectly matches the all-white rush uniform worn by the team.

Helmet stripes and nose bumpers match the uniform. You don’t have to look at the complete uniform set to understand how perfect this uniform looks. This is the only uniform in the league.
