Asheville-The annual summer festival of Reef Global Art has been in the heart of downtown Asheville as more than 30,000 people have gathered for local music, dance, games, art and food since its inception in 2015. Illuminated.
The new event spot is run by Gray Eagle Event, Asheville’s longest-running music venue, with two stages on 2.5 acres of land on the French Broad River. LEAF Down by the River is the first festival to take place at this new venue, called this year’s event, and will take place on August 20th from 11am to 8pm.
According to LEAF artistic curator Otto Basquez, the event will be more intimate than in the last few years, as the riverside venue can only accommodate 600 to 1,000 people. According to Kincaid, the total number of participants has risen from 15,000 to 30,000 since the festival began.
The new downtown event will debut offering special deals and unique experiences for everyone.
Grove Arcade will be hosting its first Summer Festival on July 30th, from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The event includes indoor and outdoor games for all ages, live demonstrations and music performances, food and drink specials, and surprises.
The new annual series is to provide local artists, artisans and retailers with the opportunity to showcase their work and products, she said. She can also try out new eateries and revisit her favorite destinations. More so, it’s about reviving the sense of the downtown Asheville community.

Citizen Vinyl opened in October 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even though it was a very difficult time, we decided to open the door to our business just to move forward and get started,” said Gar Ragland, founder and CEO.
It is located in the historic former Citizen Times building in downtown Asheville. Citizen vinyl There are three record presses on site. “We are a relatively small business,” Lagrand said.
Vinyl records are made from PVC vinyl and are formed between two stampers.
“This includes all the sound information that is pushed into the record,” Lagrand explained. “So the final record you hear on your turntable at home has a small groove that your needle follows on the turntable, which is a negative of that.”
Raw PVC vinyl begins in the form of a hockey puck. The side A and B center labels are placed on the press with the center labels on top and bottom. “It’s just a gorgeous waffle iron,” explains Ragland. “Just squeeze it into the groove of the stamper. Make a record.”
Around Town: Folkmut Summerfest returns to Waynesville

The doctor Clinton border I was inspired by participating in the Folk Festival in Sidmouth, England in 1973 with a local square dance team. Waynesville surgeons have decided to host an international folk festival in the isolated mountains of western North Carolina. The region is rich in heritage but lacks diversity.
Eleven years later, Folkmoot USA was born with the help of international contacts and community leaders. Since then, the organization has welcomed more than 8,000 performers from 200 countries.And in 2003 it was dDesignated by the North Carolina State Capitol as the state’s official international folk festival.
“It has always been important to bring people from different cultures to this region, where culture and tradition are always an important part of our identity,” said Forkmut’s Executive Director. Evan Hatch..
The Folkmut Summerfest will take place Thursday-Sunday, July 28-31, at the Folkmut Friendship Center, Maggie Valley Festival Grounds, and downtown Waynesville. This year’s list of performers includes dance groups and musicians representing the cultures of Ukraine, Venezuela, Africa, Cuba, Ireland and other countries, as well as the traditions of the local Southern Appalachia and Cherokee.
The group will perform throughout the weekend, kicking off with a fundraising banquet and gala at the Folk Moot Friendship Center at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 28th.

Three local bands celebrate a groundbreaking anniversary

Three beloved bands based in Asheville are celebrating this summer’s anniversary. Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats and Empire Strikes Brass have both reached a decade milestone, and the female-facing country ensemble Deep River is celebrating 30 years of music production.
Xpress caught up with the members of each act and discussed the origin story of the group, some of the early fights, and the secrets of a long musical career.
Empire Strike Brass
May 2012, Pauly Jules A New Orleans-style second-line jazz band was approached by a friend who wanted to perform at a wedding rehearsal. Jules, a veteran of Dixieland jazz since high school, says he “jumped at the opportunity.”
Andrew Scotch and River Rat
Accidents like spinal puncture. More than 10 years ago Andrew Scotch One of the street performers singing and playing acoustic guitar on the streets of downtown Asheville, high school classmate Andrews Adams played the harmonica. According to Scotch, this experience was a departure from his previous musical focus.
“I was just out of the punk rock trio,” he recalls. “I wanted to try something on the other side of the spectrum.”
Deep river
1991, Sharon Lewis I was singing and playing drums for the amethyst country of all the female bands. She says the group broke up the following year because “the other three women were willing to play in the smoky bar, but I wasn’t.”
But Lewis already had another band’s concept in mind. “I decided to create a band featuring three female vocalists, the soprano, the first alto, and the second alto, which gives me the maximum vocal range,” she explains. But that wasn’t the only thing. Three male instrumentalists also appeared in the group she envisioned, and Lewis continued to provide backbeats. “Perfect yin and yang,” she says. “By the early summer of 1992, the Deep River was born.”
